Welcome to Wallace Public School
Wallace Public School is a JK to grade 8 school located in a beautiful country setting in Gowanstown, just north of Listowel. In addition to an outdoor courtyard and earth friendly gardens, we have three acres of former railway land that has been reforested and boasts walking trails. Physical fitness is a priority at our school and our students are kept active on our basketball courts, soccer fields and baseball diamonds. Our community raised money to install primary and junior/intermediate playground equipment, as well as provide snowshoes, schlockey boards and tetherball. We know that students who are active are less likely to be involved in bullying, and we strive to be a safe and welcoming school for all.
Our school has a tradition of strong support from the community. We have over 25 volunteers who work regularly in the school to assist students in reading intervention for both primary and juniors, and one-to-one academic support. School Council meets monthly to advise and support us in achieving our school goals. They assist us financially by holding monthly hotdog days and hosting a Family Fun Night. We also have a school nurse who is in our school every other Friday, and Listowel Big Brothers and Sisters provide an In School Mentoring Program for our students.
At Wallace we subscribe to the belief that everyone can succeed. To this end we try to find the best way to help everyone learn. We believe that one size does not fit all in the complex business of educating humans. Our Special Education Program is designed to give to those who need a little extra boost. We set high expectations for our students, not only in academics, but also in the area of character development. We are proud of our student body who daily demonstrate the character attributes of fairness, honesty, empathy, respect, courage, integrity, optimism, compassion, perseverance, responsibility and inclusion. Throughout the year they are involved in many service projects that benefit the school and the community.
We strive to help our students to have a well-rounded school experience. Our students benefit from having a dedicated, well qualified staff who volunteer their time to provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities including sports teams, intramurals, project fairs and stimulating field trips. Our Student Council also play an active role in our school. We believe that Wallace Public School is a great place to work and learn.
